Brian West
Partner, Creative Strategy & Technology Brian is a cofounder and head of client strategy. With over 20 years of marketing leadership, he loves helping brands navigate the intersection of design, technology, data, and human emotion. When he's not working, you'll find him flying across the San Francisco Bay on a wing foil or biking his favorite trails on Mt. Tam.


Mary Ames
Partner, General Manager Mary is a cofounder with 20+ years of creative agency management expertise. She leads operations, recruiting and new business efforts, all while fostering a culture of talented, good humans. Formerly with frog design in San Francisco, she’s now in Portland, Maine, savoring the foodie scene and four true seasons.


Eric Eisenberg
Partner, Brand Strategy & Content Eric leads brand strategy and content with 20 years of storytelling chops—crafting narratives, sharpening messaging, and helping brands show up with confidence. Formerly a naming strategist at Lexicon Branding, he recharges on trail runs, writing his first novel (almost done), and performing with his popular local band, Marble Party (follow us).


Sara Behrendt
Executive Creative Director Sara leads our creative team of designers, photographers, social & content creators. A Cal Poly Graphic Design graduate and team member since 2011, she’s honed her creative eye through countless redesigns and photoshoots. Based in Portland, Oregon, she’s a mom of two, avid baker, and (pre-kids) food blogger.


Misty Amizich
Senior Designer Misty is a senior designer with 15 years of agency and in-house experience. From illustrating a children's book to animating social content, creating design systems, and deploying e-commerce content for top brands, her experience runs the gamut. A doodler, nature lover, and donut fan, she lives in St. Louis with her husband, son, two pugs, and two cats.


Betsy Carter
Social Content Producer Betsy is a social content creator and copywriter with 10+ years of experience helping brands foster community and connections. Formerly a video producer at BuzzFeed Tasty, her content has surpassed 2.2 billion views. Based in SoCal and always tracking the latest food trends, she spends her free time biking, skating, and hunting for the best tacos.


Pascale Gregory
Account Manager Pascale is one of our seasoned account managers (and in her words, a “taskmaster”) keeping things on track here since 2011. Before Active Ingredients, she spent 15+ years in operations for Gap and The Body Shop. Outside of work, you’ll find her cooking, making cocktails, or planning her next home exchange adventure.


Maggie Gremminger
Account Manager Maggie is an ace account manager, leading complex client initiatives and driving online audience engagement. With 12+ years of digital marketing expertise across CPG and agency teams, she brings a strategic and creative approach to her work. Based in New Rochelle, NY, she’s a mom, entrepreneur, snail mail enthusiast, and self-proclaimed karaoke legend.


Andrew Hutton
Paid Media Director Andrew leads the charge on performance marketing and paid media strategy. With over a decade of experience spanning in-house and consulting roles, he’s worked with major brands and startups alike. Originally from New Zealand, he now calls Encinitas home, where he surfs, travels, and tracks down the best tacos.


Nick Kessler-Irving
Senior Developer Nick is a full-stack developer who’s built websites from scratch for 7 years. Having worked with tech stacks like MERN and LAMP, he brings a nuanced perspective to development—focusing on frictionless content management systems, hosting, and precision HTML emails. When he's not coding, Nick can be found kayaking or hiking around the Bay Area.


Clare Langan
Social Content Creator Clare is a social media content creator with 15+ years in food content, working with Williams Sonoma, Sur La Table, Feedfeed, World Market, and as a culinary producer for A&E. Passionate about seasonal recipes and kitchen skills, she’s based in Oakland and loves antique markets, hiking, and planning food-filled camping adventures.

Christine Maggi
Web Designer Christine is a seasoned web and UX designer with 15+ years of experience spanning Fortune 500 companies, agencies, and startups. Formerly a Senior Product Designer at Thistle, she’s passionate about working with sustainable food brands. Most weekends, you’ll find her at the local sourdough bakery or enjoying the sunshine with her pets.


Richard Roberts
Practice Lead, Strategy and Search Marketing Richard leads our search marketing practice, bringing 20+ years of experience driving growth for both B2B and B2C companies. He brings a passionate, hands-on approach to solving today's complex marketing challenges. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing with his kids and writing novels.

Meet the partners.
Brian, Mary and Eric met in 1997 at a music festival near Yosemite. Within hours, they were conspiring to create things together.
As avid outdoor enthusiasts, they were committed to protecting the planet, having worked for organizations like Earth Island Institute, New Leaf Paper and Patagonia. Merging this devotion with their backgrounds in digital strategy, brand strategy, and creative team leadership, they were compelled to help purpose-driven brands reach more people, tell richer stories, and make a bigger impact than they ever had before.
