Freelance Senior Designer for CPG Food & Beverage

Active Ingredients, a CPG brand strategy & food marketing agency based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is seeking a freelance Senior Designer to join our team. This is a remote position, 20 – 25 hours/​week; possibility for a future full-time role. US applicants only. SUMMARY OF POSITION

  • In this role, you will lead design initiatives for well-known brands across the CPG Food & Beverage space. Some current and past clients include Marin French Cheese Co., Charlotte’s Web, Chicken of the Sea, Miyoko’s, and Amy’s Kitchen.

  • You will work on a range of projects, which may include cross-channel digital marketing campaigns, email and social media content, digital ads, websites & landing pages, presentations and photo and videoshoots.

  • For some projects, you will create new & unique visual directions; for others, you will safeguard existing styles.

  • You will lead digital projects from start to finish, collaborating with strategists and copywriters as well as developers, photographers, and of course, the project managers for those clients.

  • As a lead designer, you will be responsible for design projects of all sizes — large and small — bringing a high level of design thinking to all.


EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years experience in digital marketing-focused design: digital campaigns, paid & organic social media, website, email marketing

  • Strong portfolio of creative work and concepts


EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, UI/UX Design, or similar discipline preferred


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • VISUAL DESIGN: Outstanding graphic design, creative concepting & typography skills required. Ability to establish unique visual directions for campaigns, email and social media AND ability to extend existing design systems. High level command of color, composition & hierarchy. Expertise in Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator.

  • MOTION GRAPHICS + VIDEO EDITING: Experience with basic motion graphics & video editing in After Effects, Premiere or similar animation and editing software.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA: Understand the landscape of design & content on social media, including formats, trends, and content types for primarily Instagram, TikTok & Facebook.

  • WEB DESIGN/UI: Intermediate knowledge of design for web. Understanding of web best practices, responsive design, accessibility considerations, asset output. UI/UX strategy and basic HTML and CSS knowledge is a plus.

  • CPG & FOOD MARKETING EXPERIENCE: Experience with design and marketing for consumer packaged goods and food & beverage brands.

  • Solid understanding of digital and interactive communications, including social media marketing, content strategy and multi-channel campaign execution.

  • High level of understanding of technical hand-off of creative assets.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.


BONUS SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Personal interest or knowledge around food, recipes, trending ingredients, etc.

  • Photography or videography skills (specifically for social media).

Hourly rate: $75-$90/hour based on experience
